What is a flight navigation app?
A flight navigation app brings your live position onto an aeronautical chart, on iPhone or iPad, as part of an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). The core is the moving map: an ICAO-style chart that rotates with the aircraft (track-up) and follows your GPS position, supplemented by airspaces, terrain, traffic, and the most important flight instruments.
It's important to distinguish: Flight planning happens on the ground (building a route, checking weather, creating a flight plan). Navigation happens in the air (following the map, keeping an eye on airspaces, steering to the destination). Many apps are strong in one and weak in the other. The best solution covers both without you having to switch apps.
And as always: a navigation app is an aid. It does not replace mandatory flight preparation nor certified collision warning. You are responsible for navigating.
What defines true in-flight navigation

Honestly assessed: VFRnav is deservedly popular, affordable, uncluttered, offline-capable, and with broad hardware connectivity (FLARM, Stratux, ADS-B). Enroute is a fine, free open-source option if you only want to navigate and can do without extras. Air Navigation Pro and EasyVFR cover VFR across Europe. The premium apps SkyDemon and ForeFlight are strong, but more expensive and, in the case of ForeFlight, iOS-only.

EuroPilot Connect is a native iOS app (Android in development) for European VFR pilots. The idea: one tool for the entire flight day, instead of three separate apps.

Take a cross-country flight from Friedrichshafen (EDNY) towards the Alps: You plan the route the evening before, download Germany, Austria, and Switzerland offline, and place the iPad in the cockpit. Who built this. EuroPilot Connect originated from the Sport- und Segelfliegerclub Bad Waldsee-Reute , based at EDMZ, 660 meters of grass, runway 14/32, not on the drawing board of a software company. Many in the team hold a pilot's license, and flights and tests are conducted on Bristell LSA, Comco Ikarus C42 C, and Robin DR400, i.e., across ultralight and Echo class. The runway positions are not all equally good, and we state that: 2.421 are derived from official threshold coordinates, 1.609 are measured from aerial images, 347 are computationally constructed.
